If you keep up with the national news, you are aware of the war being waged by the Freedom From Religion brigade against all things Christian. In recent years this has included anything to do with the winter holiday, if this group thinks it may have a symbolic meaning related to the birth of Christ.
This has led us to the phenomenon of holiday trees and public school Christmas (oops! I mean Holiday) programs devoid of anything resembling a traditional carol or song. Even Jingle Bells is deemed too closely identified with the holiday-which-must-not-be-named. As was bound to happen, Santa Claus is also coming under attack as having his roots in Christianity, and rightly so. Everything about Christmas, from trees and their decorations to gifts and special food, has special symbolic origins in Christianity.
This includes the figure of Santa Claus who was modeled after historically real Christian men who acted out their faith with generous acts. However, all these saintly men are now dead. There is no need to try to wipe their memories from the public square, because only Christians remain aware of the history and meaning of these traditions; Christians and those trying to wipe us out.
The FFR group can bully and sue all references to Christ from the holy day known far and wide as Christmas, the celebration of Christ’s birth, but it is to no avail.
Santa Claus is dead…but Christ is alive.
Christians the world over will continue to honor Him in this special season and all year long, whether we are allowed to proclaim Him in the public square or not.
Do away with all the traditions and symbols as you may, all creation speaks His name, loud and clear.
AMEN!
