Medical dramas frequently portray doctors striving furiously to save a patient who is “coding” by performing Cardio Pulmonary Resusitation (CPR); compressing the chest and forcing breath into the lungs. When this fails to revive the patient, the last resort is increasingly stronger electrical shocks. These desperate measures are reserved for life and death situations.
When I look at our culture, I fear the Body of Christ is in dire need of spiritual CPR.
- Cardio stands for heart: Today’s church is showing signs of heart failure. We no longer have the courage to stand against worldly influences because we lack a heart for God.
- Pulmonary refers to breathing: Many Christians today breathe only shallowly of the Holy Spirit. Worldly obstructions keep them from spending time in the Word and Worship, resulting in a lack of spiritual oxygen to feed their souls.
- Resusitation means to bring back to life: Today’s soft, weak-willed body shows few signs of vigor when challenged by Satan’s minions. We are desperate for revival.
Will the Great Physician have to resort to extreme measures to shock us into life?
Without faith I would feel so empty. The world needs prayers and worship desperately.💐

If what has been happening in our nation isn’t a wake up call to the church to really get serious about forsaking sin and improving their relationship to Christ, then God will use stronger means. “He whom I love I discipline”.
