Foolishness or Faith?

agingA big part of the aging adventure is learning to accept new personal limits. This is a tricky process in light of God’s limitless ability to use our weaknesses for His glory.  While it is important to know when not attempting something is the better option,  I know in my heart that all things are, indeed, possible with God.

So, when I pull away from a task, am I showing wisdom or am I revealing a lack of trust in God and thereby denying myself the blessing of being carried along in His power, rather than my own?

On the other hand, we are warned in the Bible not to put God to the test, as Satan tempted Christ to do after His time in the wilderness.

It is  an act of foolishness, not faith, to jump off a bridge while praying for God to send His angels to catch you. God created the law of gravity and also gave us common sense. While we are to rely on His strength, trusting Him to carry the day; it is equally important to rely on His leading to keep us on the right path.

Psalm 23 (Contemporary English Version)

1    You, Lord, are my shepherd.
I will never be in need.
You let me rest in fields
    of green grass.
You lead me to streams
of peaceful water,
    and you refresh my life.

You are true to your name,
    and you lead me
    along the right paths.
I may walk through valleys
as dark as death,
    but I won’t be afraid.
You are with me,
    and your shepherd’s rod
    makes me feel safe.

You treat me to a feast,
    while my enemies watch.
You honor me as your guest,
    and you fill my cup
    until it overflows.
Your kindness and love
will always be with me
    each day of my life,
    and I will live forever
    in your house, Lord.
