The holy ostrich syndrome

Sometimes it seems even the news we are allowed to see on mainstream media is just too discouraging to be borne. It’s no wonder so many of us are turning our faces away and clinging to what’s safe and familiar. Doesn’t the Bible instruct us to concentrate on the beautiful things in life? We read in Philippians 4:8 – …whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.

So, it must be for the best to simply ignore the ugly things in the world…right?  Well, not unless we are to abandon the true, and to stand idly by as the noble, the right, etc. are perverted and attacked.

I have been shocked by the videos (ten, so far) revealing the depravity of the Planned Parenthood abortion and baby-parts selling industry. I’ve been even more shocked when mentioning it to fellow Christians only to find that they do not know what I’m talking about.

Christian brothers and sisters, if we are to think about the good, pure and true, we must be aware of what is going on around us. ostrich

We are not to be like the world, but we are to be in, and influence the world. If we are going about in this world with our eyes shut we cannot make much of a difference.

Pray for wisdom. Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from the men whose words are perverse (Proverbs 2:12).

Pray for wisdom and seek the truth.  If that means searching for unbiased news, or at least a variety of sources and opposing views of world events, and becoming uncomfortably aware of the evil happening in the world, so be it.  Then, in your despair, turn to the Creator for comfort and direction. Be made wise that He may use you for His glory.
