It is obvious to most of us today that Christianity is under attack. Most modern Christians have never experienced this degree of contempt and derision for our beliefs. Some of us are frightened and frustrated, feeling there is nothing we can do against such overwhelming opposition.
I suppose the first century Christians might have felt pretty much the same, and with greater reasons. They were being hunted down and killed by their own government, after all.
God’s answer to their despair was found in Joshua 1:9, “Be strong and courageous.“
This is His answer to us today. As always, we are told to be strong, not in our own strength, but in His.
A handful of humble, mostly uneducated men and women, became a grass-roots movement that changed the world. And they did it by word-of-mouth and personal witness, powered by the Holy Spirit.
Today, Christians number in the millions and we have all the tools of modern communication at our fingertips. Imagine what we can do when we invite the Spirit to fill us and guide us in the battle.
All is not lost, Christian. With the indwelling power of the Spirit, you and I can change our world, too.
I would like to see what you think about this latest post I’ve added in a series about Intercession. If you get a few minutes, here is the link:
