Sweet twenty-four hours of prayer

I love to watch TV shows like “Person of Interest” and “Leverage” where a team of good guys works secretly to prevent bad things from happening. The team members all wear earwigs to be in constant communication with their leader. They hear what he says, and he can hear their every word, as well.person of interest

That’s what I want my prayer life to be.

I don’t need a listening device stuck in my ear for God to hear my words, even my thoughts, and, if I will pay attention, I can hear His quiet instructions, too.

While special times of prayer are precious and formalized prayer serves to keep us mindful of God’s provision, I believe the instruction to pray without ceasing describes a constant awareness of God’s presence and interest in our lives. It’s listening for His whispered instructions and directing all my thoughts to Him.

I don’t have any special powers or ninja fighting skills, but if I stay connected, God can use me on His team, every day.
