Everything Old Is New Again

While searching for an inexpensive ebook  for my Kindle, I stumbled across the Collected Works of George MacDonald.  The price was right and I downloaded it right away.

Writing in the late 1800’s, George MacDonald, a Scottish author, poet, and Christian minister, was one of my favorite authors when I was in my twenties and thirties.

I had discovered a wonderful series of paperback versions of his stories. After reading “Sir Gibbie” (said to have been a favorite of C.S.Lewis), I was hooked and amassed quite a collection. These novels remain in a box buried among others gathering dust in my garage, so I was delighted to find the electronic versions of my forgotten collection.

MacDonald had the gift for using fiction to  make eternal truths ring fresh and to bring inspiration for living a more authentic faith.

His books were originally published in hardcover during his lifetime, but I did not discover MacDonald’s works until they were made available in paperback 100 years later.

I am hoping this latest incarnation of the novels in electronic form will bring this man’s words to a new audience.

Although his language is contemporary with the 19th century, his message is timeless.  Like the Bible and the Constitution, the only “updating” necessary is to make the truths accessible to each new generation.
